2006-2017
Museo Patio Herreriano, Valladolid
An acoustic structure consisting physically of three sound reproduction sets and three modified radio transmitters, suspended by wires and framed in a golden frame. The piece emits uninterruptedly and constantly, and relates the sound emitted by the pre-recorded reproduction sets with the sounds of the three radio sets which are tuned and altered with programmed crescendos and diminuendos.
In answer to a request by Javier Peñafiel, I used a mix of three interchangeable soundtracks that could be played in unison and which I had built some time before: what was heard was the mix called VINCENZO SUCCO, in its video version OS ACASOS CONVENIENTES at PLAY_GALLERY in Berlin and also at the New York Gallery in 2006. But I still felt that the thing could be presented on its own, with some addition that would incorporate some extraneous live sound to alter the resulting mix. Thus, modifying three transistor radios so they would be heard now and again, when the whole system was turned on and it all fitted in acoustically. Since then the piece has been shown in 2010 with the title VINCENZO SUCCO MARCONI at the Museu de Granollers, in 2011 at the gallery Angels Barcelona, in 2012 with the coda ALTERNATE TAKE, and in an unfortunate silent version at Roca Umbert in Granollers, in 2016 at galeria TRINTA in Santiago de Compostela, where MARCONI disappeared from the title, and likewise in 2017 in the Museo Patio Herreriano in Valladolid. The piece has made use of different technical, formal and acoustic components in the course of its history, but whenever it was heard it has always been with the free radios, dogs barking, racing cars, a “blue” percussive climate and a piece of RICERCARE by Johann Sebastian Bach, trying with little success to bring some order into the sonic climate.
