Museu de Granollers
In 1996, I presented HISTÒRIA DE LA MÚSICA, at an exhibition on the 4th floor of the Museu de Granollers within a show organized by Manel Clot.
One usually gets to the 4th floor of the museum by taking the elevator up from the ground floor, and vice versa to go back down. So every time we did it we spent a while going up or down in the elevator. That’s when I thought of constructing a sound-climate that would only be heard between the ground floor and the 4th and back. I had a CD player modified so I could connect it to the buttons in the elevator, so they would turn on the discman that fed the loudspeakers concealed in the ceiling of the elevator car while it travelled between the chosen stops. The ride lasted some 10 seconds, during which the acoustic climate could be heard with unalterable precision. I considered this the PAISATGE (soundscape). The ESCENES were what I saw just before getting into or out of the elevator. Because in museums, independently of the genre they show, landscapes and scenes are never lacking.
