1997-2019: FLY

FLY is an acoustic piece that emits a continuous series of phrases in the form of a statement to the effect that the whites or the blacks want or do not want the whites or the blacks in every combinatory possibility. In Catalan VOL means to want and also to fly. In English FLY means a type of insect and the act of flying.
So when I realized that I could use the word VOL to describe the will to acquire, have or desire something, and simultaneously the act of flying,

I recorded my own voice reading all the combinatory possibilities and reproduced them by means of an acoustic system that randomly recombined the order of the statements. After listening to it for a while it became unclear whether the whites and the blacks wanted or flew, creating a disconcerting ambivalence in both cases of wanting or flying. I devised various ways to present the piece; some remained as unrealized projects and only the diagrams and drawings remain. The piece has been presented twice in a computer format that generated the randomized sentences to be listened to through headphones. Now I feel that it would have been better to let the sound occupy the space to underline the exasperation and the despair that this tiresome migratory track can produce.
