It must have been around 1989, because it was when I did the MONK show that I built RTP. It must have been then because the box is made the same way and has a similar method of concealment as MONK.
RTP contains 1 mini cassette recorder SANYO M1015, 1 mini cassette recorder SANYO M1115, 1 endless cassette TDK EC-30S with inscriptions: RTP 1954 wacca, 1 endless cassette TDK EC-30S with the inscription: estic mort (I am dead) WACCA, 1 piece of polished wood and 1 piece of polished wood with silkscreened inscriptions written by Vicenç Altaió.
On one tape is a recording of a recital by John Cage, and on the other there is a voice talking about collaboration and confusion.
I hardly remember anything about this piece, in fact I don’t even remember the meaning of R TP. I remember ESTIC MORT (I am dead) because I’ve been it since 1984, and I’ve continued that way until today; but why I placed the things that way, with that extreme level of overprotection, etc., I’ve forgotten. Vicenç Altaió doesn’t remember much either. He owns the thing, we remember that, but not much else. Many years after doing RTP I saw a piece by John Cage which looked like it, but I didn’t know that when I did it, so now all I can say, when I see it, is that I recognize it in an attractive distance RTP.
