Col·lecció de Carroses Fúnebres de Barcelona
An acoustic installation by Vicens Vacca and Jordi Soley designed for the Barcelona Funeral Carriages Collection.
In this intervention, Vacca organises, in a semi-controlled and ricketed way, the sounds that Soley has generated on the mythical piece by Jacques Brel, composed with his pianist Gérard Jouannest.
What we perceive when we enter the exhibition room is a continuous emission of sound from 5 asynchronous loudspeakers which, in unison, generate a sound climate that turns the Collection into a great artistic installation.
This artwork revolves around death, loss through the notes of the song Ne me quitte pas, a theme normally associated with love, but which, as Brel himself acknowledged, can refer to failure, to someone who humiliates himself.
Èxit Ne me quitte pas. Èxit* don’t leave me.
Èxit, in catalan, of triumph or exit.
Exit as in english or latin.
*Èxit in catalan means succes and also can be read as the english word “exit”.
