2005-2009

Cytosine, guanine, adenine and thymine are the chemical building blocks that constitute the steps along the spiral of DNA. They gather in groups C-G and A-T, one next to the other, and make the base of DNA which is the foundation of life as we know it.
In 2005 I designed a flyer with the sentence NO HAY NADA DETRÁS, SIEMPRE ESTÁ A LOS LADOS (there is nothing behind, it is always at the sides) and next to it was a graphic representation of the chemical foundations of DNA. Intended for a large print run, it didn’t get printed at all. In 2007, using the same idea, I had 9 empty boxes built with the same sentence printed on the lids. In the same line of thought, in 2009, the third version involved a white sheet of paper on the side of which featured the apparently illegible, compressed sentence NO HI HA RES AL DARRERA, SEMPRE ÉS ALS COSTATS (in Catalan: there is nothing behind, it is always at the sides). This last piece in the series requires seeing it from the side to be able to read the printed sentence; it is only comprehensible if we depart from the conventional vertical line of vision and stand outside of the conventional angle, at the side of the piece. A special viewpoint, out of square, for a message that indicates that things are often very close -where you are now if you are reading it-, quite easy to reach and, as usual, invisible through lack of attention.
