Errant Sound (Berlin)
GRAND HALL LAMENT is an APP of non-interactive sound-art that reproduces a series of tracks in a continuous and randomized sequence that is different on each reproduction machine. Downloading the app will install it permanently in the smartphone with no further requirements. It can be downloaded from the Apple Store for Apple phones. GRAND HALL LAMENT is designed to be listened to on two phones simultaneously but there is no limit to the number of terminals used.
In 2016, I built an acoustic sculpture which, besides other functions, used three playback devices to emit three possible options of the randomized soundtrack of the original piece in 2013. I thought the two pieces would be easy to bring together as they contained the same musical fragments, an so it was. The physical piece can function on four levels: silent, displayed such as it is; in action; outside the display-space, when the piece is reproduced on a cell-phone, linked to other cell-phones and other people with whom the listener may wish to share the experience. They can take the piece with them out of the show. A possibility.
