In 2002 I designed a multiple system for sound emission in commercial establishments -see the diagram-, for different sorts of music and sounds to be heard inside and outside the space, reproduced in an unforeseen sequence. The mix generates multiple random correlations that build up an uncontrollable and, of course, unrepeatable sound climate.
After several trials, it still hasn’t been definitively introduced into the context of normal commercial activities. Later on DJALIOH became a stereo system for the emission of a certain number of sound tracks, repeated and mixed in a semi-controlled way for 50 minutes, to build up a calibrated background of sound.
The name of the thing comes from a story by Gustave Flaubert, in which a character who is half human, half orangutan, suffers unbounded incomprehension.
