Festival EXABRUPTO, Moià BCN 2024

In the sixties of the twentieth century, in the dining room of private Spanish homes, one would often see a large-sized picture hung above the sideboard, presiding over the table as the predominant image in the room. I met with some of these images repeatedly, as many as three times: Sunset in Hawaii; The Last Supper; Stag Attacked by a Pack of Hounds.
The painting by Paul de Vos (1637), Stag Attacked by a Pack of Hounds, describes the moments prior to the savage and violent dismemberment of the creature. In these circumstances some animals die of a heart attack caused the appalling terror they must inevitably suffer.
Thus, a following image would entail a bloody butchery of the highest order, presiding over the diners at the family table as something self-evident, with no further objections.
The present installation involves the painting mentioned before, placed above the sideboard; on the sideboard, to the left, is a compact amplifying system reproducing the sounds of rural exteriors in a variety of natural environments; to the right is a set of cutlery and dishes ready for use.
Life, for some, is death for others; naturally; by genetic constitution; expansively and catastrophically.

NATURA MORTA
Als anys 60 del segle XX, era freqüent veure als menjadors espanyols de cases particulars un quadre de gran format que, sobre el bufet, presidia la taula com a imatge principal de l’habitació. N’havia vist de repetits 3: Posta de sol a Hawaii, El Sant Sopar, i Cérvol atacat per una gossada.
Ciervo acosado por una jauria de perros, pintura de Paul de Vos. 1637 descriu l’instant anterior de l’esquarterament de l’animal de forma salvatge i violenta. En aquestes circumstàncies, alguns animals moren d’un atac de cor provocat pel terror espantós que es veuen obligats a patir.
La immediata imatge posterior suposaria una carnisseria sanguinària d’alt nivell, que presidiria els àpats dels comensals de la casa de forma “natural” i sense més objeccions.
Al muntatge exposat, per sobre d’un bufet convencional, el quadre referenciat; a sobre del bufet, al costat esquerre, un sistema autoamplificat que reprodueix el so d’un exterior campestre en diferents espais naturals. Al costat dret, un joc de plats i coberts llestos per a fer servir.
El que és vida per a uns és mort per a d’altres. Naturalment, per constitució genètica; expansivament i catastròfica.
